Creating Asynchronous Audio PPT Lectures
with Adobe Premiere 6.5 and Audacity

Please note: Use the NEW PPT template. It's stored on the HRE Online Network Drive at: courses\ppt_template\use_this_file.ppt

TO ORGANIZE
1. Create folder within course for appropriate SMC (Ex: S1M3C4)
a. In this folder will go:
i. .wav file
ii. .jpg files for PPT slides
iii. final .rm file for SMC

TO RECORD AUDIO FOR PPT

1. Open Audacity (Audio program)

FIRST TIME ONLY
If you've already performed steps 1a and 1b please move down to 1c.

a. Click on 'File' > 'Preferences' Then click the 'Directories' Tab > Use 'Choose' to browse to the HRE Online Shared Drive. Change directory to the shared drive in the course folder you're working in: \HRE Online Shared\courses\hre999 (the course that you are working on).

b. Restart Audacity and open it again. These settings will now be the default under your login name (i.e. You do not have to change the directory each time you login).

c. Click on 'Project rate' and set rate as 48000Hz

2. Power ON Soundboard
 
3. Plug-in Microphone to Channel 1, do not adjust settings,
 
a. Press 'Mute' button on soundboard to Un-mute channel
 
b. Check for audio signal on Soundboard
 
4. On PC, Make sure "Line-In" Balance "Select" box is checked in Volume Controls

a.
Open Powerpoint
b. Open file
c. Minimize the PPT screen (to be able to see both PPT and audacity)
d. Go to Slide Show/View Show


6. Press Record on Audacity player
7. Have professor begin to speak and click space bar as they move to each next slide

8. When presentation is over:

a. Press 'Stop' on Audacity player


1. File/Export as .wav - Save to S1M3C4 folder

b. In Powerpoint, Select File/Save As/within save as for "save as type" select JPG File Interchange Format" - This will save each slide as a JPG - Save to S1M3C4 folder

 

TO COMBINE AUDIO WITH PPT FOR FINAL .RM PRESENTATION

1. Open Adobe Premiere, when 'Load Project Settings' window pop up, under DV-NTSC Real-time Preview' folder, Choose 'Standard 48 kHz' and click OK.

2. Select File > Import > File
a. Find the .wav files for each slide in S1M3C4 folder, select and import
b. Find the .jpg files for each slide in S1M3C4 folder, select and import

3. Drag and drop WAV file to 'Audio 1' track in Timeline window.

4. Drag Slide 1 to 'Video 2' track in Timeline window.


5. Match up slides and .wavs on the timeline
a. Play WAV file for Slide 1
b. Expand Slide 1 until the end of Slide 1 audio


c. Play WAV file and find the beginning of Slide 2. Then click on Razor Tool.
d. Cut the audio between Slide 1 and 2 that you do not need, Click and press delete.


e. Add Slide 2 (same as Step 4) and Select Arrow icon, click on audio 2 track and move to the end of audio 1

6. Repeat Step 5a-e until the last slide.
7. Timeline/Preview to see what it will look like (make sure yellow bar covers entire project, should be automatic)
8. Go to: File/Export Timeline/Advanced Real Media Export
9. Select optimum settings (as shown below)
a. This will create an .rm file
10. Find .rm file, open and view/listen
11. Move to helix server for your course
12. Create .ram pointer file and upload to publishing system
13. Test within course
