Information

We will begin streaming music so you can test your audio at 11am.

    3. Please Download and Print the Slides from each Presentation in advance (find the links next to the presentation titles in the Schedule table)
    4. Test to see if you can view the Videos (third presentation, you'll need QuickTime, see below)
  2. We will be dual streaming the audio on Real and QuickTime. Please make sure you have the latest versions of both (FREE software) downloaded and installed to your machine before Saturday. You can find links to both software packages here: http://www.hre.uiuc.edu/online/stsoftware.htm
  3. During the third presentation you will be asked to view two videos, you will need QuickTime to view these, simply click the links. Note: The videos might be a little slow for modem users.
  4. By 11:45am everyone should be logged into the Symposium Webboard which is located here: http://webboard.cites.uiuc.edu:8080/%7EHRE999_S204 or you can click the link in the table above. Each user should use their current Webboard Login and Password. You should have received these in an email about two weeks ago. Note: If you do not know your Webboard Login and Password, please email me at hreonline@uiuc.edu and I'll send you the information.
  5. Once you've entered the Symposium Webboard:
    1. Click the “Chat” link on the top menu bar
    2. Then click on the “Virtual Symposium Chat Space” Chat Room – this will open up your Java Chat Room for the entire symposium
    3. Those who show up early are free to click on the appropriate Cohort chatrooms and catch up with friends...
    4. NOTE: If you are not a current HRE Online student, please test the chat room, it's possible your current PC may not be configured correctly. If you find that the chat room will not open correctly in Internet Explorer, simply download and install the Opera browser to access the chat room. Instructions for installing Opera are here: http://www.hre.uiuc.edu/online/tac_topissues.htm#opera
  6. When the symposium is finished, there will be a very brief online evaluation, please take the time to fill this out for us!

Presenter's Biographies


Michelle Leal
Currently Michelle is a Customer Service Unit Manager for Hewitt Associates where she's been for over 7 years. Her responsibilities include people management and development from an operational, financial, and quality perspective for a call center addressing Health and Group Benefit inquiries for a 300,000-customer base. Prior to that Michelle was a Learning and Development Consultant for a short-term assignment to centralize customer service. Michelle has also managed multi-service call centers serving 401k, Heath and Group Benefits, and Pension plan inquiries ranging in size 20,000 to 60,000 customers. Michelle received her B.S. in Health Information Management at Illinois State University and is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Global Human Resource Development with Cohort 4.

Gail Taylor
Gail Taylor is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in the department of Human Resource Education with an emphasis on employee training and development. Her interests include examininng how organizations are using information and computer technologies to train employees on-site and at remote locations around the world. Gail is a graduate of the University of Illinois online Bachelor of Arts degree program and recent graduate of the Human Resource Education Master's of Education degree program. She has completed 14 online courses as a student and been a teaching assistant for 2 courses offered to students through the HRE Online program. Prior to becoming a full-time graduate student, she spent 20 years working as a professional employee at federal, state, and county government agencies. Gail was a scientific research assistant and computer specialist for the last 15 years of her employment.

Hee Jun Choi

Hee Jun Choi is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in the department of Human Resource Education with an emphasis in Instructional Technologies. His interests are in development of video-based instruction and effective distance learning program. He received his B.A. from Korea University at Seoul and MEd. from Texas A&M University at College Station , TX . Before coming to the U.S., he had worked for a broadcasting corporation for five years as a TV program producer.

To Be Considered For Presenting

Please inform Adam if you plan to submit a proposal for one of the two 15-minute presentation slots. The proposal does not have to be research oriented, it can be a description of how you are using HRE principles in your work setting.

Brief

On Saturday July 24 11am – 3:30 pm (Central Time) the Department of Human Resource Education and HRE Online will host the First Annual HRE Online Virtual Symposium. The event will serve as a symposium for relevant topics in HRD (in community colleges, academia, and/or the private sector) as well as a reunion for online alumni. This 3 ½-hour online event will feature:

  • A “State of the Department” address by Department Head, Dr. Scott Johnson
  • Practical applications of HRE principles presented by current or former HRE Online students
  • An update on relevant research in educational technology conducted by the HRE Online staff
  • A feedback session for participants to evaluate the virtual symposium and brain storm suggestions for future events with HRE Faculty.
